Hello world!

Let me introduce myself. My name is Alicia Trotter, and this blog is all about my adventures in life and the way I navigate traveling with food allergies.

In 2013, I was diagnosed with Celiac disease, which means I can no longer eat anything that contains gluten. Gluten is the protein of wheat and is in all breads, pastas, cakes, crackers, and surprisingly so much more, like soy sauce.

Most recently (Jan 2025), I was bitten by the lone star tick and now have Alpha Gal, which means I can no longer eat any meat from a 4 legged mammal or any by-products, which include all dairy as well. So you may be asking yourself right now, “What do you eat”?

I can eat any meat that swims or flies (except shrimp, I am also allergic to that), and I have found that dairy-free/vegan alternatives aren’t that bad. They have for sure come a long way since we tried dairy-free back in 2009!

The purpose of this blog is to hopefully help you to navigate your travels a little safer if you, too, have food allergies. I am not a doctor, nor do I play one on TV, so my disclaimer is: please always take my posts as recommendations only and not that I am claiming in any way that you will be 100% safe and have no reactions at all. It is still your responsibility to speak to the server, manager, and even the chef, if possible, to communicate your allergies and their severity. I have found that when I do speak to them and let them know I’m actually allergic, not just being trendy or boogie, they take it more seriously. As always, make sure to travel with your Benadryl, Pepcid, and api-pen!

I hope you enjoy reading and following along as I Trott Thru Life, and if you’re also interested in holistic health from a simple perspective, you can find me on most podcast platforms under the same name, “Trotting Thru Life” with Alicia Trotter.

So nice to meet you, and I hope you get back to traveling without the overwhelm and enjoy life one bite at a time!
